Enter one paycheck at a time
Start in Earnings. Enter your hourly rate, pay frequency and hours for one paycheck. Regular, overtime and double-time hours are separate: do not count the same hour twice. Add bonuses and tips paid through that paycheck. Cash tips already received are outside this model.
Copy your W-4 settings
Select your filing status and copy the adjustments from your 2020-or-later Form W-4. Steps 3, 4(a) and 4(b) are annual amounts. Step 4(c), benefit deductions, retirement contributions and fixed state/local amounts apply to each paycheck.
Use the Step 2 checkbox only when that is how your W-4 is completed. Federal exemption affects federal withholding; Social Security and Medicare still apply under the calculator’s model.
Understand the breakdown
The estimate shows gross earnings, pre-tax deductions, federal withholding, Social Security, Medicare, the state/local estimate and post-tax deductions. Open the full breakdown to see the individual lines and federal withholding method.
Retirement contributions reduce federal taxable wages. Qualified pre-tax benefits reduce federal and FICA wages. Confirm how your employer treats each benefit. State/local is your own percentage of federal taxable pay plus a fixed amount; the app does not automatically apply a state tax table.
When your pay stub differs
Check pay frequency, hours, W-4 entries, prior year-to-date employer wages and deductions first. Social Security and Additional Medicare depend on year-to-date wages. Bonuses are treated as regular pay here; your employer may use a separate supplemental withholding method. Payroll rounding can also differ.
Qualified overtime and tip income-tax deductions are not applied automatically. Enter the actual W-4 adjustments used by payroll.
Pay-period equivalents
Weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly and annual equivalents repeat the current paycheck across the year. They are not forecasts or separate withholding calculations. Changing hours, wage caps, bonuses and deductions can change future checks.
Supported tax year and limits
Version 1.0 supports tax year 2026 for US employees with a 2020-or-later W-4. It excludes separate supplemental-wage methods, cash tips already received, nonresident-alien adjustments, self-employment, clergy and railroad rules, garnishment limits and employer taxes.
Results are estimates, not tax, payroll, legal or financial advice. Confirm payroll questions with your employer or a qualified professional.
Privacy and pricing
Core calculations are free, with no subscriptions, in-app purchases or ads in version 1.0. The app has no account, tracking, saved history or cloud sync. Entries stay in memory and reset when the app restarts. Read the privacy policy.
